Areas where Elastomers are used

1.Footwear Market

Generally, the density of the elastomers used for the production of sporting gear shoe soles are between 400-650 kg/m3.

The most important qualities for this elastomer are its resistance for wear, long life and extra ordinary comfort and these qualities makes this product perfect for all types of foot wear soles.

Production is generally made by the injection or pouring from a low pressure PU machine into moles which are located on a turn table. The production capacity is proportional to the number of moles. The rules that are valid for other PU system productions also apply to this type of production.

2.Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers (TPU):

Different from other types of polyurethane systems, TPUs have an additional step before moulding in which they are transformed to cubic, cylindrical or elliptic micro particles. These particles are later melted to let them be injected, sprayed or extruded to receive their final shapes. These elastomers are recycling materials. These materials are suprior quality in terms of abrasion resistance, elasticity, resistance to tearing, high elongation in low temperatures, and their hardness values which is from 60 shore A to 74 shore D which make them perfect for wire coatings, engineered parts for automotive industry and foot wear industry.

3. High Temperature Elastomers:

Hot-cure elastomer polyurethanes are produced in mould that are preheated to 60-130 C degrees. These systems which have a microcellular structure, have densities of 350 – 650 kg/m3. They are heavily used in automotive industry as shock absorbers and widely named as Cellasto springs.

They are also used as o-rings that are resistant to grease oil. Under pressure, first cells and then the part itself is squished and when the pressure is released, the material takes its original shape. They can absorb stress values up to 20 N/mm2.

4.Cold Curing Elastomers:

They are much easier to produce and apply with respect to hot cured elastomers. This system which consists of two components are stable so can be shelved for a good amount of time and have low viscosities. The material is poured and surfaced on the ground when it is applied to coat industrial flooring and sport area flooring applications. It is possible to create a homogenous and continuous membrane with this material. A few other areas that this material is used are furniture market, desks, tables for giving it resistance to scratching and crashes.
